Sitting on the Greenwich Peninsula, The Pilot was original built in 1801 named The Pilot Inn and Ferry – reflecting the fact that the only way to cross the Thames at the time was by boat. The pub, and the little row of terraced houses that adjoin it, stand strangely isolated in the now rapidly developing area around the O2. In fact, the pub and those houses are probably the oldest surviving building on the peninsula. The Pilot has had its fair share of celebrity. Damien Hirst was once a neighbour before rocketing to stardom and Blur filmed their video for Parklife on this little street.
